There are a number of important differences to consider between discs and cups, starting with their placement in the body. Whereas discs are inserted above the vaginal canal, cups are worn in the vaginal canal itself. As a result:
• Cups are not to be worn during sex. With discs, sex is not a problem.
• Most menstrual cups offer about 0.5 oz (20 ml) of capacity. Discs can hold up to 2 oz (60 ml).
• Cups require suction to remain in place. Discs stay put with no suction needed.
• Cups can be used for up to eight hours. Discs can be used for up to twelve.
